DEWE-3200 SureHAND Portable data acquisition system

stinger_port_DEWE-3200
3200
The SureHAND is available in two basic versions - the 3200 model features 8 slots for our DAQ modules, while the 3201 can accept any two of our 8 channel MDAQ-SUB modules, for 16 channels. And BOTH versions can be expanded with another 16 channels of MDAQ modules with the 3200-EXP option. The SureHAND is an “all in one” data acquisition system, meaning that it is a single integrated platform with data acquisition signal conditioning, analog to digital converters, and software - and a 100% integrated computer to run it all. The screen flips up like a notebook computer's revealing a keyboard underneath.

Overview

closedopenbatteries

The first thing you notice is the bright touchscreen. This is a big 15” XGA resolution screen, made specifically for DEWESoft, Dewetron’s award-winning data acquisition software. You can do just about everything without having to type on the keyboard, which is built right in, of course. The screen closes down and locks over the keyboard when the system is not being used (you can also close it even while it’s running).

Inside each Surehand is a Core2Duo computer running WindowsXP (we will upgrade to Windows7 when it’s prudent to make the switch). The standard RAM is 2 GB (3 max), and a 250 GB HDD. Many computer related upgrades are available, including solid state hard drives, more RAM, and more. Starting in 2010 each SureHAND model has a removable 250 GB hard drive as standard - no more internal drives! This is a great benefit when it comes to changing the drive for processing classified data, or simply for maintenance purposes.

Analog and digital inputs are located on the left side panel, and the computer connections are on the right side, protected behind a detachable metal door.

Models

There are two basic version and two expanded versions of the DEWE-3200 series:

DEWE-3200 - 8 slots for DAQ modules
DEWE-3201 - 2 positions for 8 channel MDAQ modules
...expanded versions...
DEWE-3202 - 8 slots for DAQ modules and 16 MDAQ channels
DEWE-3201-EXP - 32 MDAQ channels

DEWE-3202 - more MDAQ inputs and more batteries!
Both basic versions can be expanded with 16 more MDAQ channels via the 3200-EXP option. This expansion option adds a 3.5" high chassis below the mainframe, which can hold both 16 more MDAQ channels (any two 8 channel MDAQ-SUB modules), and even up to 4 more batteries, for a total of 7 batteries.

Expansion

There are several ways to expand your SureHAND to accept more channels.

External signal conditioning
First, we add another A/D card or two inside the SureHAND ... and then provide a connector so that you can plug in one or more of our expansion chasses. The smallest one we make is the DEWE-31-16, which will give you two banks of 8 MDAQ channels! Here is a DEWE-31-16 configured with 8 x BNC inputs and 8 x DSUB universal input channels, as one example:
DEWE-31-16_right_front
This model is small enough to put in your jacket pocket - and it includes the cable needed to plug it in. Just choose which MDAQ modules you need.

There are DEWE-31 series expansion chasses available which can hold 16 , 32, 64, or 128 channels.

If you prefer to use our DAQ modules in order to have single channel modularity and galvanic isolation, and the most popular one is the 16 slot DEWE-30-16 model:
dewe-30-16

We offer DEWE-30 series chasses available with 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 slots.

Internal expansion
We can also add the 3200-EXP-MDAQ16 chassis to expand the size of the SureHAND chassis itself, allowing it to hold up to 32 MDAQ channels.

Software

Most data acquisition software packages allow you to display and record data from A/D cards, to control signal conditioners, and record data to RAM or disk. Of course, DEWESoft handles all that easily - but that’s just the beginning. Imagine if you could plug all these addition devices into your data acquisition system, and add them to your recordings in perfect sync:
  • Video cameras - from inexpensive webcams to fast synchronizable cameras, even high speed video cameras, infra-red, and low light cameras
  • GPS sensors - record your exact position, heading, speed and distance, and draw a real-time map as you move around
  • CAN BUS interfaces - view and record dozens - even hundreds of parameters - directly from the CAN bus that is built into every car, truck, motorcycle, most aircraft engines, modern trains, and thousands of CAN based sensors!
  • ARINC 429 aircraft data bus, from countless commercial aircraft
  • MIL-STD 1553 aircraft data bus, from military aircraft of all kinds
Well, DEWESoft makes all that possible -- and more! Learn more about DEWESoft.

Options & Upgrades

ORION
Each system needs to have these elements added in order to be a complete system:

A/D card:
Signal conditioning:
  • Up to 8 x DAQ modules (for DEWE-3200 and DEWE-3202 models only)
  • 1 x MDAQ-BASE-5 base card for each 16 channels that will be installed
  • Any two MDAQ-SUB series 8-channel modules for each MDAQ-BASE-5
  • Software: DEWESoft data acquisition software (SE version minimum, PROF required for multicard systems, or for 22 or 24-bit A/D cards)
Popular upgrades (factory installed):
  • CAN BUS - be sure to order an ORION card with 2 x synchronous CAN BUS interfaces, plus the DEWESoft-OPT-CAN software option. If you want the ability to output messages onto the CAN bus, please also order the DEWESoft-OPT-CAN-OUT software option.
  • COUNTERS - the two synchronous counters included as a minimum on all ORION cards are wired by default to the standard 37-pin DSUB ACCESORY connector. If you would also like 2 x LEMO counter inputs installed on the front panel, please order the ORION-CNT-2 option, and mating connectors.
  • MDAQ-FILT filter for the inputs -- this is very popular, as it provides the best possible signal performance.
  • Larger hard drive inside (standard is 250 GB HDD -- larger drives and solid state drives are available as upgrades)
Popular add-ons and accessories (can be added anytime):
  • One of our MOB(ile) displays, perfect for in-vehicle use.
  • Common carrier rated shipping case to protect the system during shipment
  • DEWE-CAM-01 or other video camera add-ons
  • DEWE-VGPS series GPS sensor/interface
  • Isolated DC-DC power supply, so you can power the system from a wide voltage range, and protect the signal quality from interference on the vehicle’s power system
  • Popular sensors such as accelerometers, mics, thermocouples, encoders, and more
  • MSI interfaces MSI-BR series are compatible with the MDAQ-SUB-BRIDGE-D and MDAQ-SUB-STG-D:

Even longer battery running times...
Want to power this system for even longer without line power? Order the 24 VDC model plus one of our Neutrino-4 battery charger/supply units. The Neutrino-4 can power this system for hours at a time! You can buy additional batteries and hot swap them into the Neutrino-4 for even more running time. The Neutrino-4 comes with one battery as standard, but you can add three more, and provide tons of running time for Dewetron DC powered and battery/DC powered systems.
