DEWESoft data acquisition software

DEWESoft overview

Most data acquisition software packages allow you to display and record data from A/D cards, to control signal conditioners, and record data to RAM or disk. Of course, DEWESoft handles all that easily - but that’s just the beginning. Imagine if you could plug all these addition devices into your data acquisition system, and add them to your recordings in perfect sync:
- Video cameras - from inexpensive webcams to fast synchronizable cameras, even high speed video cameras, infra-red, and low light cameras
- GPS sensors - record your exact position, heading, speed and distance, and draw a real-time map as you move around
- CAN BUS interfaces - view and record dozens - even hundreds of parameters - directly from the CAN bus that is built into every car, truck, motorcycle, most aircraft engines, modern trains, and thousands of CAN based sensors!
- ARINC 429 aircraft data bus, from countless commercial aircraft
- MIL-STD 1553 aircraft data bus, from military aircraft of all kinds
Well, DEWESoft makes all that possible -- and more! What to learn what’s new in DEWESoft 7? Check out this page!
Complete hardware control
DEWETRON offers a broad range of signal conditioners, for virtually every application - every sensor - every transducer - which is commonly used within the realm of physical measurement. Our DAQ and MDAQ series of modules are intended for dynamic signals such as AC/DC voltage and current, acceleration, vibration, strain, pressure, speed, displacement, shock, and much more. Our PAD and EPAD series modules are intended for static and quasi-static signals like temperature, DC voltage and current, and static pressures, loads, and more (see our signal conditioning section for more details about the modules that we make).
Engineers and technicians need to apply scaling to many of the inputs, so that the signals read in the correct unit of measurement. DEWESoft makes this easier than ever. The SETUP screen provides several convenient way to apply linear scaling to each input as required. For non-linear scaling, we have included a built-in sensor database that you can use to store all the key info about all of your sensors and transducers, including their EU, CAL dates, and scaling -- which can be linear, table of points, or polynomial using coefficients. You can also create and save non-linear scaling functions using the versatile IIR filter MATH channel, and apply it to numerous channels at once (this function can be used to apply user programmable filtering, or integration, double integration, differentiation, double differentiation, and polynomial non-linear scaling).
DEWESoft - sensors
If you have TEDS sensors, they will be read automatically and added into the database! Non-TEDS sensors can be freely entered by you into the database. When you’re on the channel setup screen, you may simple select any sensor from the database, and it will apply its settings to the channel, even configuring the signal conditioner for you. This prevents errors, and also speeds up the whole process of setting up your system.

DEWESoft - video
Is a video camera a sensor? Surely it is, so why can’t we use it in our data acquisition? Well, if your system says DEWETRON on it, you can! Video can be powerful and highly useful test documentation, providing a visual record of the test conditions and setup. It can also be used for more in-depth analysis, as you can imagine. There is nothing quite like seeing your data replayed with synchronized video - this DEWETRON innovation provides a whole new level of context and understanding of your test data than you could ever imagine.
DEWESoft - audio
Is a microphone a sensor? Absolutely. There are calibrated sensor mics widely used in dynamic signal analyzers. Our DAQ and MDAQ series ACC modules can directly power IEPE constant current microphones. When a 24-bit ORION card is used as the A/D card, your Dewetron system can capture high resolution audio for class A analysis via the Sound Level software option. Or, if you just want to record sound as a reference, you can use conventional low cost audio mics with a small adapter with one of our low voltage modules (MDAQ-SUB-V200 or DAQP-LV).
DEWESoft - math
User-programmable MATH channels: formulas, filters, and functions!
Math channels were added in version 6 around 2004. Back then there were only two basic types of derived channels that you could create: IIR filters and user-programmed formulas. These are still quite powerful, and allow a wide range of functions to be created. MATH channels can be displayed freely like any other channel, used for triggering, and more.
Create a MATH channel and then choose from a wide variety of types, starting with arithmetic functions, trigonometry, algebra, boolean logic, and more. Multiply channels together, and then add a constant, or a third channel. That’s simple. Now how about taking the cosine of channel 1, multiplying it by PI, and the dividing by the tangent of another channel -- but only when channel 9 is greater than 112.321? All that and more are possible - even EASY - within DEWESoft. You can even use MATH channels within another MATH channel -- it’s that versatile.
There are numerous built-in measurement functions, too, for measuring the distance in time between user-definable conditions -- or delta amplitudes between user-defined conditions, basic STATISTICS across some or all channels, counting events, and much more.
Or, direct any or all real channels through our filtering engine and process them in real time. This is non-destructive filtering, because the raw channel is unaffected. You get a new “virtual” channel which is the output of a filter or math process.
DEWESoft - displays
Design your own screens
One of the most powerful and yet easy to use aspect of DEWESoft is the creation of the online and offline displays. Of course, we create a few standard displays for you automatically, such as a recorder, FFT, scope, video, etc... but that’s just the beginning. We include also an OVERVIEW display which you can use to create anything you can imagine. And actually, each of the standard displays can be changed around freely. You can even add, name, delete, and reorder the displays entirely on your own in version 7.0 and higher! Click any of these widgets and it will be added to the display. Now drag it into position and size it if necessary. Click on the channel list and assign channels into the display instruments on the screen. It’s just that simple! Free and graphical screen design are DEWESoft hallmarks!
DEWESoft - storing

Dewetron systems can stream data at very high rates to disk. Most systems are capable of continuous writing up to 50 MB/s. However, systems can also be configured to stream up to 160 MB/s to disk! This is at the current limit of PC technology, but this is a moving target, and the envelope continues to be pushed farther and farther - and Dewetron takes immediate advantage of this.
DEWESoft - storing
Triggers & Alarms
You can always just press STORE and then STOP to control recording, but DEWESoft also includes a versatile TRIGGERING section, which includes these types and more:
- Simple edge (either rising or falling slope)
- Filtered edge (edge plus a rearm level, selectable slope)
- Window trigger (two levels, entering or leaving logic
- Pulsewidth trigger (longer or shorter than duration logic)
- Window and pulsewidth (completely selectable as above)
- Slope trigger (either rising or falling slope with steepness selection)

DEWESoft - replay & analysis
Replay and Analyze your data
Here you can replay any captured data file - zoom in and take measurements with the cursors anywhere. Or just play the data like a movie using the simple controls. You can play data faster or slower (up to 8000/1), and in reverse if you like! Select any area of the file (or all of it) and EXPORT the data to one of a dozen or so file formats, including MATLAB, EXCEL, delimited ASCII, Flexpro, UFF, and many more. You can even create your own export filters and add them to the list.
If you still need to emulate those old chart recorders, you can do a MULTIPLE PAGE PRINTOUT and strip out your data across dozens or hundreds of numbered sheets of paper, using any Windows compatible printer on regular inexpensive office paper -- in full color! Add comments and your company logo to the top of each page, which automatically includes the file name, page number and total number of pages, and more
